They say that a picture is worth 1000 words. In this web page, we present many thousands of words of Toronto history and heritage, in the form of pictures from Toronto’s past. The pictures are all taken from the archives of the Toronto Historical Association.

This picture is taken from a souvenir postcard of the King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto.The original hotel was built in 1903 for George Gooderham’s Toronto Hotel Company. It was designed by Chicago architect Henry Ives Cobb and Toronto architect E.J. Lennox.

The 18 story tower was added in 1922. The picture is looking on the hotel from the east side on King Street.

Did you know that the 1922 hotel had 1000 rooms and (hold onto your socks, folks) 1000 bathrooms!

These are the third buildings built expressly for use as Parliament Buildings in the Province of Ontario.
Construction of these buildings began in 1890 and was completed in 1893.
