Unexplored archaeological site.

Details of Site Location: At the southwest corner of Weston Road and Bellevue Crescent (south of Lawrence).

PDM: Borden # AkGv 6, easting 1965, northing 3930.

Boundary History: Site is approximately one acre in size, as far as is known.

Current Use of Property: Residential.

Historical Description: A local resident, Mr. Andres, reported that unknown persons had removed some skeletal material. This information indicates a burial site. Since no official archaeological investigation of the site has ever been made, it is recorded as one of unknown date and culture. It is of tremendous significance, however, in that the site is on the route of the Toronto Carrying Place Trail, and may be French, since Indians rarely buried their dead in high-traffic areas and tended to live in areas somewhat closer to water.

Relative Importance: In his 1973 survey, archaeologist Victor Konrad ranked this site 5/5 in importance, and 5/5 in terms of threats to its existence.

Planning Implications: The area should be flagged for proper investigation to determine if more burials exist and what other material may be found. This site is north of the area where a French fort was built and where aboriginal peoples lived and traded over many centuries. Although little is known at present, its importance should not be underrated.
